Let’s Connect 2026

We know that as we age our social relations and connections change…people die, move away, our neighbourhoods change.  Authors Archana Singh and Nishi Misra stated that as we age, people “lose their friendship networks and that they find it more difficult to initiate new friendships and to belong to new networks.”

The Let’s Connect project funded by New Horizons for Seniors grant taught seniors the skills to “reconnect” socially to reduce the risk of social isolation and loneliness. This slide deck is as an outcome of this grant project and contains the information which was shared with more than 300 learners.

Let’s Connect encourages older adults to develop life skills that increase social connections and provides ways to enrich existing friendships, and make new connections.

These slides remind the learner about health risk factors associated with a lack of social participation and barriers to social participation. When we are socially isolated or lonely, it may increase the risk of frauds and scams that can lead to elder abuse.  The slides include information on the importance of belonging, a reminder on the networking process as well as techniques to address ageism.

We hope that by practicing the information contained in the slides that it will contribute to your well-being and increase your social participation, reducing your risk of elder abuse. Feel free to visit and review this information as often as you like.
