Friday with OSSCO – Retiring On A Low Income: Plain Language Advice

August 30, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

Free

For August, Tuesdays with OSSCO will be moved to Friday August 30 in partnership with the East GTA Family Health Team (Scarborough, Ontario).

The vast majority of the financial information available about retirement planning is designed for people who have pensions or have accumulated money in RRSPs or other savings.  There is very little information available for people who will need to rely primarily on the Canadian Pension Plan (CPP),  Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) and Old Age Security (OAS) for their income after retirement.

The Retiring on a Low Income workshop is designed for people who are planning on retiring with CPP, OAS and GIS as their main source of income. John Stapleton of Open Policy Ontario will explain how these programs work and what anyone relying on them will need to know.

John Stapleton is a writer, instructor and Innovation Fellow with the Metcalf Foundation. He worked for the Ontario Government for 28 years in the areas of social assistance policy and operations and was Research Director for the Task Force on Modernizing Income Security for Working-Age Adults in Toronto. John teaches on public policy for community advocates and is extensively published in local and national media.
